The child star and Bergen County native-turned-racing enthusiast finished 33rd over the weekend in his first Truck Series race since announcing he was becoming a full-time racer.
Muniz, 38, who hails from Wood-Ridge and starred in "Malcolm in the Middle," parlayed his Hollywood fame into a temporary spot in the series before announcing recently that he was to take over the number 33 Ford for Reaume Brothers Racing in 2025.
However, his last race was underwhelming.
After qualifying 31st out of 34 cars, his Toyota suffered mechanical failure and finished 33rd at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
"I started off with great pace and was able to make some passes throughout the first few laps - but an unexpected mechanical hiccup brought us into the pits during the green flag in the first stage," he wrote on Instagram.
"I got the most of the truck throughout the rest of the race and had pretty good long-run speed."
Muniz has been a fixture in the racing world for years, having previously competed in the Xfinity Series, ARCA Series and other stock car events. He goes full-time with Reaume Brothers Racing next year.
